***********      BREAKING NEWS!!!      ***********

June 5 2008

We are working hard to track down all those unmeasured moose. Vermont's greatest hunting secret is our trophy moose. Vermont has tremendous moose and every permit holder has a chance at killing a record book moose. I honestly believe a Boone and Crockett moose has been killed in Vermont every year. We will do our best to track them down and get the stories and photos. I just measured another Boone and Crockett moose this morning. The moose below was killed in Averill by John LaFreniere in 2007. John's daughter Katie had the permit and it was a great story. The story will be published in our records book. If accepted, John's moose has a Boone and Crockett net score of 186 6/8. The VBGTC has accepted John's moose with a gross score of 190 2/8. The moose weighed 756 lbs. and the antlers have a greatest spread of 56". This moose was aged at 8.5 years old. After viewing years of Vermont moose data I can tell you that the majority of our record book moose are between 4.5 and 10.5 years old with the average age being 6.5. For moose weighing over 900 lbs. the average age is a liitle older at about 8.5. These are mature animals and Vermont continues to produce many moose in this age range.
